This is a great place to visit! I went to Hemingway's home while staying in Key West Florida in August 2003. There are guided tours and you can also simply wander around the house and grounds on your own.
Hemingway moved into the mansion in 1931 and lived there until his death in1961. During those years, Mr. Hemingway wrote some of his most important books including: A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Snows of Kilimanjaro. After his death the mansion was sold to the city of Key West.
The house is built of 18 inch thick stone. It has always withstood even the worst hurricanes. It is an island of calm in the middle of the much too touristy Key West.
